“The concept of an icon can be a cliché… I don’t like clichés.”*
H&M has just released a new line personally handpicked by Grammy Award winning artist and hitmaker, The Weeknd for their new series called “Spring Icons”. The new line features edgy, street, and comfortable pieces that manifest the singer’s style POV.
The pieces introduce the status of menswear from catwalk to street – they are simple and very universal, something that many style enthusiasts around the world would opt to wear. “I love those simple pieces that can stand the test of time and will always look great,” Abel says.
As per Billboard, H&M’s head of menswear design Andreas Löwenstam agrees. “Digital channels make for new inspiration for everyone, and that’s why you see this casual look everywhere, from the men’s catwalk to the street,” he tells Billboard. “Abel has such a great personal style, and yet is also universal. It’s an attitude that encapsulates the mood in menswear right now, and we know that men around the world are going to love wearing pieces from his collection.”
The collection is really current and out there. You could see men from all age archetypes, race, and sexuality wear a thing or two from the collection. At first glance, the pieces look very H&M – wearable, stylish, and contemporary.
The Weeknd’s flavor is evident in the details of the clothes. Each piece reflects the outfits he has worn in his past appearances on shows, interviews, music videos and candid paparazzi photos. The pieces speak simplicity but scream on the showman that Abel is. Ergo, it is simple but not too simple to get ignored.
“Icons are like dreams, or music. If you live it and walk in it…it sings.”*
